BAC Calculator

Enter body weight, drink size and strength to see a highly uncertain mathematical scenario. This is not a measurement or a reliable prediction of your blood alcohol level.

Do not use this estimate to decide whether you can drive, operate machinery, or make a medical or legal decision. It is not a breath/blood test, diagnosis, or reliable prediction. Any alcohol can impair driving. If you have been drinking, do not drive—arrange a sober ride. If someone is unconscious, difficult to wake, having seizures, or breathing slowly/irregularly, contact local emergency services now.

Enter a current approximate weight. The tool converts pounds to kilograms when selected. Enter up to 8 drink types. Use count 0 for no alcohol; each row assumes identical servings and strength.

Simplified assumptions: apparent distribution ratio 0.45–0.80 and elimination 0.01–0.03 percentage points per hour. It assumes immediate absorption. Real absorption and elimination vary widely, may continue after drinking, and cannot be inferred from these inputs.

Background: NIAAA cautions that alcohol calculators should not be relied on to predict blood alcohol level because of individual variation. CDC advises not to drive while impaired. NIAAA; CDC.

How does this BAC scenario work?

It converts the drink entries to grams of ethanol, applies a simplified Widmark-style distribution estimate with broad assumptions, then subtracts a broad illustrative elimination range based on elapsed time. It assumes immediate absorption and cannot model your body or the timing of each drink.

Frequently asked questions

How does this BAC scenario work?

It converts the drink entries to grams of ethanol, applies a simplified Widmark-style distribution estimate with broad assumptions, then subtracts a broad illustrative elimination range based on elapsed time. It assumes immediate absorption and cannot model your body or the timing of each drink.

Are my entries uploaded?

No. The calculation runs in this browser. Entries are not uploaded, stored or sent to a server.

Can this tell me if I am safe to drive?

No. Never use a calculator to make that decision. BAC estimates have substantial uncertainty, impairment can begin below legal limits, and alcohol may still be absorbed after the last drink. If you drank, do not drive; arrange a sober ride.

Is the result my actual blood alcohol level?

No. It is a simplified Widmark-style illustration, not a test or reliable prediction. Body composition, absorption, food, health, medications, drink timing and many other factors are not known from these entries.

Why does it show a wide range?

The distribution and elimination assumptions vary widely between people. The range is illustrative and cannot guarantee that a real measurement falls inside it.
