Capacitor Calculator

Calculate total capacitance for capacitors in series or parallel. Add a voltage to also estimate total charge, stored energy and each capacitor’s share.

Enter 1 to 20 positive values. Use the selected unit for every line.

Ideal capacitors only. Check component voltage ratings and design requirements separately; this tool is not engineering or safety advice.

Parallel: Cₜ = ΣCᵢ. Series: 1/Cₜ = Σ(1/Cᵢ). With voltage V: Q = CₜV and E = ½CₜV².

How do I calculate equivalent capacitance?

Enter one capacitance per line, choose the shared unit and series or parallel connection, then calculate. Parallel values add; series values use the reciprocal sum. Voltage is optional.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate equivalent capacitance?

Enter one capacitance per line, choose the shared unit and series or parallel connection, then calculate. Parallel values add; series values use the reciprocal sum. Voltage is optional.

Are my values uploaded?

No. The calculation runs in this browser. It is an ideal-capacitor estimate and does not model tolerance, leakage, ESR or voltage ratings.

How do capacitors in parallel combine?

Add their capacitances. Two 100 μF capacitors in parallel have an equivalent capacitance of 200 μF.

How do capacitors in series combine?

Add the reciprocals and take the reciprocal of that sum. The result is lower than the smallest individual capacitance.

What does the voltage option calculate?

It calculates ideal total charge and stored energy, then shows each component’s voltage and charge based on the selected connection.
