Readability Checker

Check readability estimates, sentence and word length, characters and syllables. Choose the language of the text, not the page interface.

Scores are structural estimates, not comprehension tests or accessibility certification. Syllable counts use language-specific heuristics. Formula scores are available only for these five languages; no score is shown for other languages.

How do I check a text’s readability?

Paste text, choose its language, and select Check readability. The tool shows a language-specific index and intermediate counts. Syllable counts are estimates, and short samples are less reliable.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check a text’s readability?

Paste text, choose its language, and select Check readability. The tool shows a language-specific index and intermediate counts. Syllable counts are estimates, and short samples are less reliable.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Analysis happens locally in this browser. Your text is not sent to a server or saved by this tool.

Which readability formulas are available?

English uses Flesch Reading Ease, Spanish uses Fernández-Huerta, French uses Kandel–Moles, German uses Amstad, and Italian uses Gulpease. Other source languages can still be counted only when a suitable formula is added; this checker does not reuse the English formula for them.

Does a high score prove that everyone will understand the text?

No. These formulas estimate surface features such as sentence length and word structure. They do not test comprehension, context, writing quality, audience knowledge or accessibility, and short samples can be noisy.
