Example
Bern is near LV95 E 2,600,000 m / N 1,200,000 m and LV03 E 600,000 m / N 200,000 m. A direct LV03/LV95 offset is a quick approximation, not a survey transformation.
How it works
Swiss-to-WGS84 conversion uses swisstopo’s published approximate navigation formulas. LV03↔LV95 uses only the 2,000,000 m / 1,000,000 m false-origin offset, not the CHENyx06 grid. UTM uses the WGS84 transverse Mercator projection and selects the standard zone, including Norway and Svalbard exceptions.
Frequently asked questions
Are these coordinates suitable for official surveying?
No. The Swiss formulas here are approximate and intended for navigation/general use. Official or centimetre-level LV03/LV95 transformations need the CHENyx06/FINELTRA grid and the relevant survey workflow.
Why does LV95 differ from LV03 by about 2,000,000 and 1,000,000?
Those are the false-origin offsets used to distinguish the modern LV95 values from the older LV03 values. The simple offset does not remove local distortions in LV03.
Does the tool upload my coordinates?
No. Conversion and CSV preparation run in this browser. No online geocoder or coordinate service is called.
Can I convert many rows?
Yes. Paste up to 1,000 pairs, one per line. For UTM input, each row can include its own zone and hemisphere.
Limits and accuracy
Approximate Swiss transformations are for navigation and general use, not cadastral surveying, engineering control or geodetic work. swisstopo reports that LV03/LV95 distortion can reach 1.6 m; its CHENyx06/FINELTRA grid is needed for centimetre-level transformation. UTM does not support polar regions; use UPS there. Check the displayed CRS and accuracy note before using any result.
