Example
A NOK 20,000 deposit can create a nominal NOK 2,000 tax deduction at the 10% 2026 rate. If only NOK 1,200 of eligible tax is available, the deduction used is NOK 1,200 and the unused NOK 800 does not carry forward.
How this scenario works
The tool applies the official annual and lifetime contribution caps, checks the age and property conditions for a tax deduction, and limits the deduction to the tax capacity you enter. Interest rates for the optional savings comparison come from you, not a bank-rate feed.
Common questions
Who can receive the BSU tax deduction?
For 2026, you must be no older than 33 at the end of the income year, not own a primary or secondary residence at year end, have an eligible active account, and have enough income tax and national insurance tax to use the deduction.
What are the 2026 contribution limits?
The maximum new deposit is NOK 27,500 for the year and the total deposited principal under the scheme cannot exceed NOK 300,000. Interest is not included in those deposit limits.
Can unused tax deduction be saved for later?
No. The deduction cannot exceed eligible tax and an unused amount does not carry forward to another year.
Is BSU always better than ordinary savings?
No. Eligibility, tax available, home plans, account rates and withdrawal restrictions matter. The optional comparison uses the two rates you enter and does not recommend a bank product.
