A quick example

You call the Eichel ace without holding it, but you must hold another Eichel card. The player with that ace is your partner; the partnership becomes public when the ace is played.

How to play Schafkopf

Rufspiel uses 32 Bavarian cards, four seats and eight cards per player. Obers and Unters are trumps, as are all hearts. The called ace names your partner. Follow the led non-trump suit or trump when possible. A team needs at least 61 of 120 card points to win.

Frequently asked questions

What is Schafkopf Rufspiel?

It is a four-player Bavarian trick-taking game. One player calls an ace and teams are formed by the caller and the player holding that ace.

How many cards are used?

This version deals 32 cards: seven, eight, nine, ten, king, Ober, Unter and Sau in Eichel, Gras, Herz and Schellen. Each player receives eight cards.

Which cards are trumps?

All Obers, then all Unters, then the hearts in order Sau, ten, king, nine, eight, seven. The other cards follow their suit.

How do I call a partner?

Choose an Eichel, Gras or Schellen ace you do not hold. You must also have another card of that suit. The other player holding the ace is your partner.

Do I have to follow suit?

Yes. Follow the led suit when you can. If a trump is led, play a trump when possible. Otherwise any card is allowed.

How many points win?

The caller team wins with at least 61 of the 120 card points. This practice version shows the card-point result and a simple match score.

Can I play friends online?

No. The three opponents are local computer players. There is no account, matchmaking or online multiplayer.

Does this include Solo and Wenz?

No. This page implements the Rufspiel practice mode only. It does not offer Solo, Wenz, tournament calls, penalties or every local table rule.

Is my game uploaded?

No. Your current deal is saved in this browser on this device. No cards or scores are uploaded.

Rules and limits

This is a free local practice game, not gambling or tournament software. It implements a basic Bavarian Rufspiel: ace calling, hidden partnership, trump order, following suit, eight tricks and the 61-point result. It does not implement Solo, Wenz, tournament announcements, Schneider/Schwarz bonuses, penalties or all house rules. Computer choices use simple heuristics and may be weak.
