A quick example

In a normal game, the two players who hold a club queen are Re. If one player holds both, a wedding starts: the first other player to win a trick in the first three becomes their partner.

How to play

The game deals 48 cards: two copies of ace, ten, king, queen, jack and nine in each suit. Each of four seats gets 12 cards. Trump order starts with the heart ten, then the queens and jacks in suit order, followed by the diamond cards. A trick is won by the highest trump, or the highest card of the led suit if no trump is played. The game has 240 card eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How many cards and players are there?

Doppelkopf is played here with four seats and 48 cards: two copies of each of 24 card faces. Each seat receives 12 cards.

How are the teams found?

In a normal game, the two seats holding a club queen form Re; the other two form Kontra. If one seat holds both club queens, the wedding rule finds a partner during the first three tricks.

What happens during a wedding?

The first other seat to win one of the first three tricks joins Re. If the wedding seat wins all three, the game continues as a one-player diamond solo.

Which card is the strongest trump?

The heart ten is highest. Queens follow in club, spade, heart, diamond order, then jacks in the same suit order, then the diamond ace, ten, king and nine.

Must I follow suit?

Yes. If a non-trump suit is led, play that suit when you can. If a trump is led, play a trump when you can. Otherwise, choose any card.

What do Re and Kontra mean?

They are the names of the two teams. During the allowed opening window, a player can announce their team once. The call is visible and changes the win threshold and game points.

Is this the full tournament ruleset?

No. This is a local practice version of normal play with Re/Kontra calls and the wedding rule. It leaves out solos chosen before play, refusals, tournament penalties and many house rules.

Can I play with three friends online?

No. Your three opponents are simple local computer players. There is no account, matchmaking or online multiplayer.

Is my deal uploaded or saved online?

No game data is uploaded. Your current deal is saved automatically in this browser on this device so you can resume it later.

Rules and limitations

This is a casual local practice game, not online multiplayer, gambling, a tournament client or an expert solver. It uses the DDV normal-game card order, the Re/Kontra calls and wedding resolution, but does not implement selectable solos, refusals such as keine 90, tournament penalties, all special table rules or certified tournament scoring. The three CPUs use simple legal-move heuristics and may make weak decisions.
