Play Gris

Collect five cards of one suit, pass the extra card to the left, and notice when a round-ending signal appears.

Collect five cards of one suit. Card rank does not matter.

Start a local practice game. You play one hand; the rest are simulated computer opponents.

How a round works

A six-card hand passes one face-down card left. If a returning card has completed a circuit, the receiver may confirm and replace it from the stock. When a player has five cards in one suit, they pass the sixth card and trigger the signal phase.

How to play

This is the Norwegian Gris card-game variant described by Norske kortspill, not the similarly named dice game and not the four-of-a-kind games Pig or Spoons. Three to eight players use a standard 52-card deck without jokers. Each player receives five cards; the starting player receives one extra. On a turn, the player with six cards passes one card face down to the next player on the left. If a card returns to its original owner, that player can confirm the full circuit and replace it from the draw pile, or keep it if the circuit is disputed. After receiving a card, a player with five cards of one suit passes their sixth card and starts the signal phase. The last simulated responder gets one letter in the chosen penalty word; completing the word eliminates that player. Continue until one player remains. CPU reactions are a local practice simulation, not a physical speed test or online opponent. The source describes a table gesture; this interface uses a visible button and does not claim to reproduce simultaneous in-person play.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Pig or Spoons?

No. This named Norwegian Gris variant collects five cards of the same suit. The page distinguishes it from Pig and Spoons, which commonly collect four cards of one rank.

How many people can play?

Choose three to eight players. One person plays locally against simulated computer opponents; there is no remote multiplayer.

Can I change the penalty word?

Yes. Choose a word of 2 to 12 letters for your group. A player receives one letter each time they are last in the simulated signal order.

Does the game measure reaction speed?

No. CPU order is simulated locally and the human response uses an accessible button. It does not measure real or simultaneous reaction speed.

Are my cards uploaded?

No. The game and optional save stay in this browser on this device.

Variant and limitations

The rules are a named Norwegian variant and do not change based on interface language or the player’s country. The source describes discreet simultaneous table gestures; this single-device practice version replaces that with a visible accessible response control and simulated CPU order. The source also allows group variants, so the penalty word can be changed. No online opponents, accounts, uploads, or reaction-speed claims.
