Spearman Correlation Calculator

Calculate Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (rho) from paired values. Tied values receive average ranks; inspect every rank and download a CSV locally.

Enter one pair per line as x, y. A comma, semicolon or spaces can separate the two numbers. Use a period for decimal values. Enter 2–500 pairs.

Ties receive average ranks. Rho describes monotonic rank association, not causation. This calculator does not report a p-value or confidence interval; statistical inference needs study-specific assumptions.

How do I calculate Spearman correlation?

Enter paired x and y values, one pair per line. The calculator assigns average ranks to ties, then calculates the Pearson correlation of the two rank lists.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate Spearman correlation?

Enter paired x and y values, one pair per line. The calculator assigns average ranks to ties, then calculates the Pearson correlation of the two rank lists.

Are my values uploaded?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. Values are not uploaded or saved by this tool.

What does Spearman rho measure?

It summarizes the direction and strength of a monotonic relationship using ranks. It does not establish that one variable causes another.

How are tied values ranked?

All tied observations receive the mean of the rank positions they occupy. For example, two values tied in positions 1 and 2 each receive rank 1.5.

Is Spearman rho the same as Pearson correlation?

No. Spearman calculates Pearson correlation after ranking each variable, so it measures monotonic rank association rather than a straight-line relationship in the original values.
